I have been able to hand out pads to different groups of young women these past couple years. This time though, there was more intention behind it. I wanted these girls to have basic sanitary pads. I wanted young women to not be deceived by men and their offering of worldly gifts. I wanted girls to know how beautiful and purposeful they have been made. I wanted them to know the love of Christ. I went to tie up the love and hope we have in Jesus to physical needs that only women face.
It was good to have time to talk about menstrual hygiene and tie it together with sexual purity. Our physical and spiritual both need to have purity. It was two easy topics to go back and forth about. In some ways I think I do not have the knowledge to do this. I have no medical background and so I am always hoping girls do not have any questions about menstruation. Also, in my younger years I wasn’t always making the best choices concerning men that came my way. Yet, God uses me. I was deceived and pulled away to the cravings of this world but by God’s grace, He pulled me back. I need to share this grace and my story with other women.
I always appreciate Samuel. He knows where to go, what pastors to talk with, issues young people face and cares for those most vulnerable. Samuel arranged 5 different churches in different villages for us to speak to. I got to speak to these young women. Both of us were able to hand out pads.
At one church, a leader came to us afterward and expressed his gratefulness. He told us about the young women in church who are marrying men of a different faith. We also have heard stories of young women giving themselves away when a man buys pads for her or more expensive things like a phone.
Samuel was able to get some phone numbers of the girls who were a bit older. We hope to train them so they can do the teachings in their churches or at other opportunities.
